WRIGHTWOOD >> Firefighters on Monday are closer to fully containing the 11-acre Zermatt fire that started Saturday in Wrightwood and threatened some homes.
The wildfire, which was burning on Lone Pine Canyon Road in the San Gabriel Mountains, was 70 percent contained Monday morning, Angeles National Forest spokesman Nathan Judy said. Officials have not estimated when exactly it will be 100 percent contained, he said.
Firefighters had managed to stop the fire from spreading by Sunday morning, when it had reached 11 acres.
On Saturday, about five homes were evacuated along Pacific Crest Drive between Zermatt Drive and Lone Pine Canyon and east of Pacific Crest Drive. The evacuation was lifted about 5 p.m. Saturday.
