Religious leaders plan event aimed to curb violence, homelessness in San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO >> Pastors Michael Hall and Shawn Johnson and therapist Sonia Hernandez along with other leaders from the local faith community are coordinating the 2017 “Stop the Homelessness, Stop the Violence” event in an effort, they say, to find solutions for problems plaguing the city.

“There is so much need here and I’m so blessed to be here,” Hall said. “I feel like I’m making a difference, I’m wanting to make a difference saving souls.”

Evangelists will gather from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at Spanish Radio Station 94.3 FM, 1580 North D St., San Bernardino.

Presented by First Love Outreach & World Evangelistic Ministry International, the event will be much like an old-fashioned revival with preaching, gospel music and dancing.

In all, 13 ministers will share the stage.

Pastors will speak, testimonials will be shared, encouraging words and prayers will be given.

The outreach will also include raffles for gift baskets, music and food and beverage vendors.

Donations from Veronica and Edwin Meza of Meza Auto Sales in Colton has led to three of the raffle tickets will be $500 deposits for car purchases. Sponsors also include Angel Morroquie from Lord of the Rims, and Luisa Lopez and Roberto Briones of International Network in Rancho Cucamonga.

“There are lots of drugs here — lots of pain here,” said Hall, who is passionate about sharing the gospel with others.

He said he’s been talking to businesses and other ministries.

“It’s so encouraging to talk to people. I’m getting everyone involved — it’s a process,” said Hall, who was ordained 16 years ago and has spent the last 2 1/2 years in San Bernardino.
